Our consulting work at Consilience focuses on the holistic wellbeing – mind, body, spirit, and relationships – of people and organizations engaged in social impact work, with a specific focus on climate change and the social dynamics of advocacy. Through customized consulting, training, and coaching packages, we help organizations foster the creativity, innovation, hopefulness, and compassion needed to meet the psychological and leadership challenges associated with climate change and the human systems surrounding climate advocacy.
Climate change has both direct and indirect implications for mental and physical health, not only affecting the wellbeing of individuals but also impacting how organizations accomplish their missions.
In addition to the increasing risks associated with climate-related disasters, the psychological effects of climate change are a pressing concern for organizations. An April 2025 feature from the Society for Human Resource Management (O’Connor, 2025) addresses the climate-change related challenges facing individuals and organizations, emphasizing the mounting costs associated with the psychological effects of climate change. Leaders are encouraged to meet the moment through climate-change-informed strategies like providing support following extreme weather events, addressing climate anxiety in daily life, and creating a sense of purpose at work.
The psychological and social implications of climate change call for a new kind of leadership:
“...what is called for first and foremost is not persuasion, education, and deliberation (though none of these will lose in importance), but kind and compassionate human support. Not conversion but respect and dignity. Not a battle of the minds, but a meeting of the hearts” - Susanne Moser, 2015, Whither the heart (-to-heart)?
